Also worth mentioning!:

1) We will be streaming a majority of our Appathon here.
2) On the stream you’ll notice a little weatherbug icon to track the storm while we work!
3) I know we haven’t posted in a while. Sorry about that folks. Good news is that we have still been making some pretty steady progress on the game and keep your eyes here soon for some more info on that!

App Weekend

written by Tim Company Development

Although slighlty rattled from this week’s earthquake (ba-da-ding!), we at 12 Mile Radius will be getting super-serious and powering through a whole weekend of everything App related!

Race to The App

Starting this Friday (8/26) at noon, we all at 12 Mile Radius are going to be working as-close-to-non-stop as possible, in a valiant effort to build an entire mobile application for the iPhone in a a 48 hour timeframe.

This is a slight segway from our usual development endeavors, but we plan to gain tons of App developer XP, so we can level up and build our game, and other Apps at a more aggressive pace. We’ll get to the details of the App itself later on, but we hope to get this out in an App store near you(r iPhone) ASAP! Sounds fun, right? While some are fleeing the state due to a slightly massive hurricane, we laugh in the face of natural disaster- until the power goes out. But that’s neither here nor there, the important thing is to look for updates this weekend on our progress, as we tackle the many challenges that lie ahead of us on this epic App-tastic journey!

End of line.

Back in action!

written by Tim Company

I’m sure some of you thought “Hey, what happened to that 11 Foot Diameter company or whatever is was called?” with our lack of posts these past few weeks. Maybe you even thought we all disappeared in the rapture. Well, if you did – you’d be wrong! As all startups seem to experience, we hit a productivity wall due to real-life obstacles, but we’re past that now and ready to get things moving again! Here’s a breakdown of what we’ve been up to, and what we’re planning for the remainder of the Summer / Early Fall- with the goal of a Fall release of our flagship game!

Storyline

Our communications with our friend – the “Shaman” – have been coming through for the past few months now, but we’ve recently uncovered some additional ways to gather information from him in the future! We can’t really say how, what, or why- but you can be on the lookout for engaging new content, and a glimpse into the his world.

Team Management

Before the Business Plan Competition, we were working on a script that would help bridge the gap between our developers and the rest of the company by extracting pieces of commented code from our project, and posting them on our 12 Mile Radius Teambox.

Code

We’re hitting the ground hard and tackling what remains on the framework that will be running our game (essentially, our game engine). First up is to finish the visual system, which be displaying the graphical elements of the game. This has been a major hurdle in our progress so far, due to the complications of memory management on mobile devices. However- we’re planning on having this and the rest of the engine working soon, so we can start messing around with the really cool functionality of the game in the next few weeks!

Development

While we’re coding furiously, the entire company will be meeting every Friday to discuss the intricacies of the game itself, level design, game mechanics, and a whole bunch of other really interesting stuff. The goal of these meetings is to know exactly what the game will look, feel, and act like before the engine is complete. It’s like rapid-prototyping of the game itself, but with a giant dry-erase board as the iPhone, and a bunch of cut-outs as the pieces to the game elements. We’ll also be sharing some of what’s discussed at these meetings here to keep everyone involved in our progress.

Get Pumped

So in summary, we’re launching an all-out offense on our game, and we’ll be beating all of our code into place by the end up the summer so that we can tweak and test the game itself. August is our “Game-code-a-thon” month, and you can look forward to a lot of really cool updates on our site. New insights into our game’s story. New artwork. And we’re even going to work on getting some genuine gameplay videos on here ASAP, to give everyone a better idea of what this is all about.
